How To Adjust The Timing On My 12v
 

Any links to instructions on how to adjust the timing on my 1997 12v? i searched through this site but i guess my searching skills are lacking, I know there has to be somewhere on here as it would be a comon thing but i cant find any, help would be apreciated. I want to set it at 16 and see how that is. I want to do the KDP tab and set timing while im in there.

thank you guess its a lot more involved than i thought it would be. What is the average shop charging to set the timing on these? Any one know of any good diesel shops around the sw ms, or baton rouge, la area? I dont think i would trust the local dodge stealership they would probobly just say they changed it and charge me for it, or screw the injection pump up and say i need a new one..

i get mine set for free at the local shop. there is a redneck way of doing it with out the expensive tools but it aint entirely accurate

soooo, whats the redneck way? also by going by the instructions it doesnt exactly tell you how to tell what the timing is it pretty much just gives you a lobe reading from the dial indicator in the injecton line hole. How do you tell what the timing is set at? with a timing light or what i dont quite get it?

Bottom line, you should have the tools (about $350 or so) and know how. Or, you should pay someone for their expertise (just make sure they have the expertise before they try the job).

Also, when bumping the timing - its a very good time to fix the KDP (since the timing case cover is off anyway)

Diesel Timing

That shows what timing at what lift. You need to have your engine CPL # handy. Time is around 3-4 hours to get the job done I think. But since you'll have the cover off to do the KDP anyway it won't be quite as much.

3-4 hours? its about an hour job
