I had one red top and one yellow top last year. But i had to replace the red top because it couldn't handle the diesel engine and gave me starting problems. So i bought another yellow top and havn't had the problem.

Thats not true. The Red Top is the correct starting battery - the yellowtop is a combo starting/deep cycle.

You always need to replace batteries in pairs and they need to be the same. I suspect that was your problem.

I have had nothing but bad luck w/ my Red Tops in my toy car (Fiero GT w/ 3800 SC Series II Swap). After winter they were always COOKED. Yeah i probably should have taken them out BUT every other battery was fine doing that to. Starting and running or driving if there was no salt.
