allison in dodge?

i have a friend who is junking a chevy 8 litre gas burner 3/4 ton and it has an allisos tranny in it.what i'm wondering is if there is some way to make it work in my truck,i hate to see it go to waste, they are great trannys.just a shot in the dark.

yes you can put a allison on the back of a cummins. there is a local guy hear tht does that i looked into it but when i found out the price tag i prefer my nv4500 over it

I've done it in my 97 and it's worth it and once I get my 07 paid off I'll probably throw an Allison in that truck as well. You can go to destroked and they have all of the adapters and flexplates to do it, but it can get pricey but it sounds like you've already got the tranny so it shouldn't get to expensive

gotta get adapter plates and the TCM and stuf like that. but since you have the tranny now it should not be too bad

you'll be better off to build your 47rh up to bullet proof status...some of the big time duramax drag racers are switching to a built dodge tranny because its lighter then the allison...the allison is a good tranny but the internals are heavy and you'll be beefing it up just the same as you would with your dodge tranny

Yeah, he's right on on this one. I saw a guy with a 1000hp Duramax that has a 47RH behind it. He destroyed 30 allisons before he decided to go with the Dodge tranny. Says it holds up the best under that power. But....that's at 1000hp. The allison is a great transmission, I think that would be an awesome custom swap.

I believe Suncoast built the tranny behind the dmax and they call it the duraflite

what is the weakness in the 47rh is it just the torque convertor?i know the tranny is built,i just don't know what all is in it.i would rather keep mine.

yeah the allison is great. it can only support up too i think 500 and 800lbs. but even if youre under that its risky. my dad cracked the housing of an allison just my loading up his bobcat while it was in park. but youre better off dropin yours and beefin it up. it will be cheaper and won be as much work plus you wont end up with an extra tranny

And probablly the valve body needs modified for higher pressure.
