Temp

Hello, I am dealing with thermostant issues and would like to know what everyone is running for temps.???? I have tried three different themostants and can not seem to get my beast to run below *200 thanks..:U:

Have you tried one from Cummins?

Dont waste your money on anything else.

have you tried blowing your radiator out. jws 01 had a problem with running hot and took a pressure washer and washed it out betwen the radiator and the intercooler. hope this helps

hell i wish mine did. mine goes to about 215 then drops below 190 then stays around 190 for awhile i have a new radiator, condensor, thermostat and fan but then again im running straight water only

190* driveing all day, 190* before a pull, and 190* after a pull ... tho I have a coolent bypass

Thanks all, I have installed a new radiator, replaced the heater core tubes and the tubes for the torque converter cooler along with the converter cooler exchanger, so not sure if my gauge is reading a little high of if running a *180 thermostat is better than running a *190..What reading on the gauges are you showing and what thermostat are you running with???I know that the cooling system are overkill on these beasts but just curious so, thanks for the input!!!:c:

:c:I have been having issues also. Granted that my truck is the 24v, but people are telling me that the cooling systems are more or less the same. Mine was running at 186* at all times until this last thursday. Since then I've changed my thermostat, pulled the radiator and power washed as suggested, cleaned all the hoses, changed the sending unit, new 50/50 coolant and I still have my temps going between 186* and 205*. :ufo:I have been told that if temps are moving that much, there is most likely a crack somewhere.. :argh: I am going to have my cooling system pressure tested tonight, and if it fails, the crack is for real. :ouch: I'd love to know why the sudden change. If I find my head cracked, I would guess you could have a crack also. Best of luck :c:

see you got a new radiator and fixed your problem? I guess? As for straight water... Antifreeze will make an engine run hotter versus straight water... but then you get rust, and that will make it run a lot hotter... If not make it burn eventually... Either that or a Winter freeze will break the block in half.... Anyway I don't really know anything about diesels; Only know possible solutions that I've been thru myself and haven't ran into this one yet, on my cummins.... ;) . Don't know what temp it runs at exactly, but the needle never goes much higher than the lower bracket on the gauge. Never seen it go half way, anyway.

On my previous '91 cummins I did see it go as far as 3/4's, but I had a radiator leak on that one and was low on water... Gotta say, that was a close one. I was lucky, I caught it in time, before something more expensive happened..

edit: nevermind... the following.... I'm guilty of not reading the whole thread.
-----------------------

Radiator needs rodding? maybe?

My 360 '74 Duster was having overheating problems gauge was going 3/4 mark which is way to high for that car. Had them rod it.... Although they tried their best to sell me a new one... or a recore. But I insisted a rerod only. 30 bucks later, temp is the normal 1/4gauge, again. This was after I changed the thermostat and came near changing the waterpump, before my dad suggest having the radiator rodded out.
