could someone explain how the timing slips,i was told it is gear to gear,never seen how it works,thanks.

 

I believe the timing slips because they did not torque the nut enough at the factory.

 

yeah but what slips,if it was gear to gear and they are keyed i don't see how it slips.i know it does i hear about it all the time,i just would like to know what happens.

 

the pump gear is run by the cam gear ... but the pump gear is a tapered fit over the pump shaft meaning its pressed on by the lock washer and nut there is a keyed slot but its not keyed. once the gear is pressed on by the nut it should not slip unless it has oil or dirt on the pump shaft before the gear was put on or the nut was not torqued to the 150 ft/lbs its supsoed to be.

Yes, the pump shaft must be cleaned with brake cleaner or electric contact cleaner before torquing....or it will slip.

 

brake clean works very well
