the low down on my stock fuel plate
 

hey guys,
I have 1997 2500 cummins dodge ram reg cab long box 5 spd my exhaust is currently cut off after the muffler, and i have been considering getting rid of my cat for the mean time, money is a little tight right now being in school and i wanted to know the truth about sliding my stock fuel plate forward all the way. Is this going to cause damage. I would love to get a pyro but like i said monay is a little tight right now. what do you guys think? I also read something about not to remove my stock fuel plate and a pin that will eventually break. any info on all of this will be greatly appreciated

If you dont have money for a pyrometer and boost guage - leave it alone. Moving the plate a small amount can have a large effect on exhaust temps. If you dont have money for a pyro - you probably dont have money for a rebuild.

And the rest of what you are asking about is the Break-off screw which was installed at the factory to prevent tampering with the fuel system.

i think what you are saying about pulling the plate and breaking a pin is a common myth that someone started so that people would not pull he plate. pulling the plate out is basically like putting a 0 plate all the way foward so it fuels hard all the time. but like said above leave it alone trust me its alot more fun to have a truck to drive than to be in the middle of a full rebuild. plus if you get to monkeying around with that plate your clutch will not last long. been there fried that burnt clutch dont smell good and look at it this way you already have the highest horse 12 valve to come through stock in a pickup

i think what you are talking about is what people call the killer dowel pin wich is not directly related to sliding your plate foreward.

No he's talking about 2 different pins , ive done some research on it and some "pump experts" say that if you pull the fuel plate out there is a pin in the pump itself that will eventually wear and break causing lots of costly damage . :booo: This is what i've read .
