steering
hey guys i have some play in my steering on my truck.
when it is shut off i can rotate the wheel quite a bit. the shaft from the wheel moves fine with the wheel going into the steering box but you have to turn it quite abit for the pitman arm to start moving. its very annoying driving it and is almost to dangerous. i noticed a little play in the bushing of the pitman arm and the drag link? i think its called any advise is welcome. |
ha mine does the same thing. I can move my wheel about an inch while driving and the truck will stay straight
|
i wish mine was like that i can moves it about 2 inches each way off center

Yup. thats the typical dodge worn out track bar, and front steering components. I would start replacing everything as you can afford it. My truck also has that issue and as it worsens it becomes the DODGE DEATH WOBBLE. Get it fixed

ive heard of people putting new bodystyle trackbars on with a conversion kit.
but how does the track bar have to do with play in the steering wheel. the truck rides nice with a perfect alignment. its just play in the steering box going bad? my buddy has a 92 dodge and the steering shaft coming into the box from the wheel had play in it. he welded the shaft together to the box and problem solved. i just dont want play in the steering wheel. tie rod ends were just replaced |
its a dodge get used to it:U:

Well You can get a stearing box brace, a borganson steering shaft and if you want a a new box. NOT a REMAN. Then your truck should ride like a 2009. Just Keep in minde, its a big truck with alot of wieght on the front end. they also don't have a rac so its never going to be perfect. if you want perfect get a chysler 300 or a cadi.:w2::w2:
|
you can get a new sterring box off ebay for 159.99,problem solved.it would be well worth your money.
|
dont buy one of them over rated steering braces they dont do any good anyway becasue they tie both frame rails together and holds the steering box witch will rot your steering box faster than without it
|
thanks guys. the pitman arm tie rod end has some play in it.
i went to oreillys and they can get the new tie rod end for 51$ so im gunna start with that. |
