well I tore into my truck today expecting a hole in piston, gouged cylinder wall something but found nothing wrong.
Last week I drove the truck bout 200 miles used 2 GALLONS of oil filled it up with oil again thought maybe I haven't checked it like I need to and used 2 MORE gallons on the way home, oil spots down the side of truck and all over tailgate. Is there anyway it's just wore out it only had 275,000 miles on it. The cylinders look perfect maybe a broke ring?? I have another engine I'm swapping in just wondering what the hell.

rear or front seal blown out?? Could be a broken ring but the thing would be smokin blue like a motha if it was burning that much oil...could be KDP come out, all kinds of good stuff could of happened
smoke always black except in morning til it warms up, do ya'll think I could have busted a compression ring and it is pressureing up the crankcase and blowing it out the blowby tube
i was having the same problom not long ago. i changed the head out and it started blowing oil bad. it turned out i have a bypass oil filter on my truck that drianed in to a valve cover that was causing it. worked great with the other head but not this one. i dont know if your runing a bypass filter or not but thought it might help.
also if you have it apart you could pull the push rod cover and see if a oil return passage is blocked in it.
