Max Boost on stock 96 12v turbo
Ive been looking around the site and havent really found the exact answer. I was wandering what is the max boost you can obtain from the stock turbo. I have a boost elbow, plate all the way forward and the star wheel all the way forward. I have plans for injectors lata on. I want good dependable power without hurting parts. So how much boost is acceptable without breaking stuff....????
guessing around 35 pounds, mine will boost 38, but on another truck I had it hit 42 and broke the shaft:argh:
I just bought a isspro 40psi boost gauge... I figured i wasnt gonna reach higher than that on a stock turbo.. but if i do ill buy another
40psi... but past 35 all its makeing is heat.
So where should i keep it to maintain reliability and performance?
30-33 psi is the most sufficent are before creating heat
in the low 30s is great, 35psi is getting borderline, anything higher and you are getting out of the compressors efficiency range and its super heating the air and really putting a strain on it.
on the boost elbow, does screwing the set screw in or out increase the boost... And how does it increase or decrease the boost?????:humm::humm:
screwing it in increases boost because it lowers or cuts off the boost signal to the wastegate. some of the ebay boost controllers work similar too, except they just vent the wastegate line to lower the pressure signal to the WG
mid 30s is idea for that turbo even though i have seen 60lbs out of a hx35 you are just doing more harm then good at that pressure. i have watched my gauge hit 53 and i was listings for the turbo to break the shaft or explode.
