oil filter
I was wondering if anyone knows if premium gaurd oil filters are good filter. And who thay are made by.
|
Never heard of it. Dodge had an old TSB about some filters that come apart internally and plug up piston cooling ports, oil passages etc. All oil filters are not created equal.
I will not put anything on my truck but a Fleetguard LF3874 |
Thats like fram I wouldnt put a fram on my lawn mower. thay are junk. I always use a wix oil filter. but everything is getting so high now. most people laugh when I tell them what kind of oil I use. I use the cheap oil at walmart. We have a 90 dodge ram dad bought it new. it has over 500,000 miles. thats what we have always put in it. but it hasnt ever been turned up. It has been good oil to me. Cause I change mine every 3000 to 5000 miles and it dont take long to get to that either.
|
Yes Fram is junk. I would probably consider a Wix though.
The Walmart oil is probably good - Im pretty sure Walmart doesnt make their own oil so its just a repackaged national brand. You are dumping good oil. Put a Fleetguard Stratapore (LF 3874) on there to get better filtration and let the oil go 6000 miles. |
I sure hope those bad filters on the TSB aren't Napa Gold 7620 made by wix...:humm:
|
i can get a mopar cummins filter at walmart where i live for $10 bucks thats what i use and exxon 15w40 xd3 oil

But there are a number of different filters that Fleetguaged makes - the best is called a Stratapore (p/n LF3894). It uses synthetic filter media that provides much better filtration and last longer between oil changes. I didnt know Fram were poor filters. They are pretty much all I've ever used. I've put a wix in a couple times but for the most part I've always used Fram.
How come they are so crappy??? ..... Now I'm all worried. |
QC and neoprene from what I have read while researching TSB 09-004-01.
Wix and Fram are both mentioned. I think I will be switching to Fleetguard Stratapore filters. I don't know how true some of this stuff is so make up your own mind. Here are a few of the pages I have looked at; TSB 09-004-01 oil filter TSB [Archive] - Moparchat - Home of MOPAR enthusiasts worldwide! http://www.dmtrx.ca/mx6/Project/Alli...nal_Letter.pdf |

Okay good I havent had any issues with the truck and will be doing an oil change this week so I'm hopefully safe..... knock on wood.
|
where can i get a Fleetguard LF3874 oil filter???
|
Should be a LF3894 - which is the Stratapore p/n.
Theres lots of places - not sure where you live, but truck stops, industrial equipment places, agricultural equipment (case tractors) etc. You may have to phone around for a bit. Or you can order them directly from Genos Garage: FLEETGUARD LF3894 - STRATAPORE OIL FILTER ('98.5-'02, 24-V)-Dodge Cummins and Ford Power Stroke Diesel Truck Accessories - Geno's Garage |
there is a cummins dealer around town....would they have them?
looked at website and they have 12v filters which is better the standard or the microglass and why? |
A Cummins dealer definitely should have them. Fleetguagrd is a sister company to Cummins.
If you want the best one - get the LF3894 (it was designed for the 24V) but it works on the 12V just fine. It has the best filter media and filters finer than an of the other Fleetguards. |
Just adding to the FRAM Filters that they are NO good,I worked for the dodgestealership for 4 months and seen 5 yes 5 yes 5 diesels under warrenty with F@cK up diesels because of FRAM FILTERS,dodge gets mad because they have to send them out to get fixed at a cummins place.

i use K&n oil filter and amsoil 15w-40 change the oil filter every 6000 miles change oil every 20000 miles oil comes back good from test
|
Well i am glad i came across this this is good imformation to know! Thanks, i was just getting ready to change the oil.
|
i only use AMSOIL oil and oil filters. Use them on everything AMSOIL sells them for.:U:
|
are the k/n oil filters any good? i run them because they are on the shelf at work, should i change?
|
No - a mechanic buddy of mine has personally rebuilt 2 Cummins engine with a K&N on it.
Whats the big deal about a K&N?? Is it the nut on the bottom or what? |
i know k&N sells the most gas intakes, everyone i know runns them on there chevys, even my 87 chevy 350 has a k&N itake. ive herd nothing but horror stories of guys runnin them on there diesels, even the oil filters
|
i am running a afe oil filter with my royal purple
|
I didnt know that AFE is in the oil filter game. Interesting that Air Flow Engineering makes oil filters.
|
yep i didnt know it either untill my techs suggested i run it.
|
i noticed my oil pressure guage needle doesnt move till almost 5 seconds after i start it on a cold start.i am in FL and it is summer here and it doesnt get below 75 here for 6 months out of the year.i am using a mopar filter.anybody else see this on cold starts?i am considering a steel mesh re usable filter but it is about 300$pure power is the brand, anybody use one of these, they claim filtration down to 5 microns
|
my dad runs one on his modified tour car, but just started, they are a nice pice, but i wouldnt waste your money on it. Just buy a fleet gaurd
