Fuel gauge

My fuel gauge keeps acting up. When Im about to run out, it will tell me I have 1/4 tank, but when I put 30 dollars in it at 2.09 a gallon it shows half a tank. I could use some help on this.

Probably the sending unit. Check autozone, or your local parts store to see what they run. Mine's acting up as well, although this one only fluctuates between where the fuel level is and empty. No biggie.

The float on it is either sticking, or the rheostat/electronics inside are messed up. I suppose you could pull it out and try to clean it. But for all that trouble, I'd just assume replace it.

Thanks man. It bugs the shit out of me.

Yea get used to it. All my diesels have had quirky fuel gauges. My '97 does the same thing yours does. The Low Fuel light is supposed to come on with around 5 gallons in the tank. Sometimes mine comes on, I'll put about 50 miles on it, then fill it up, and it only takes 20 gallons. For safety purposes, I only run a max of 50 miles with the Low Fuel light on. I've ran it empty once, and don't want to go through that again.:argh:

Mine died when I was exiting the freeway to stop for fuel. I coasted into the station, but had to go up an incline to get to the pumps. It didn't make it, so I kept cranking it and popping the clutch so it would crawl up to the pump. I topped it off, bled the filter housing, and it fired up. Smoked like a whore for a while, then cleared up, and it's been fine since. :choochoo:

Same story here, but I didnt make it to the pump. I had to walk about 400 yards, luckily I had a diesel jug in the back.

Habeeb didn't have any fuel jugs, I was willing to buy one just so I wouldnt be stuck there bleeding the air out of the system. Luckily it worked out OK.

As for your gauge, live with it, or buy a new sending unit. Drop the tank or lift the bed for access. :c:
