Adjusting Idle RPM

In the morning when my truck starts up.It idles below 500 rpm and i would like to adjust it to the proper rpm. What rpm should a 12v idle at.And what rpm should the engine idle at in gear. And how do i adjust it.Thanks in advance.

Its "supposed" to be set at 750-800 (or maybe a bit higher) in gear with the AC on.

Adjusting it isnt too bad as long as your arms are long and dont mind working blind.

Heres the procedure:

Thanks for the help, much appreciated.Question, should i try and adjust it when the engines hot or cold? Thanks.:U:

does it idle the same hot or cold?It should be fairly close, there should not be a big change from hot to cold.. its easier to work on when its cold or warm, its a b**** when your bare arm touches a hot engine.....

Usually it does it hot or cold.

Well since you say it is sometimes below 500 rpm during cold idle, its fairly safe to go out right now and loosen/raise(lefty loosey, righty tighty remember lol) the bolt a good 3/4 turn and go from there. On mine, it may just be old and half siezed but you can just turn the bolt without loosening the nut underneath. It doesnt take much to get it back up to where it needs to be so don't go crazy on it.

Thanks for the info guys.I'll try and adjust it a little later.:U:

Yeah, a little at a time.

Probably the easiest way is to do it with the engine running and have someone sit in the drivers seat - they can tell you when you are getting close and/or which way to go.
