Head gasket question

Hi I have a 94 12v just had the head plained .60 along with a valve job and new springs. My question is can I use a new factory head gasket or do I need a thicker gasket so the valves won't hit the Pistons? Thanks in advance, Anthony

Did you have the valves recessed?

Check your PTV. You can get a 20 thicker HG from Cummins.

yea they did a valve job, I need to wait till tm and ask if the head was plained 6 thousands or 60 thousands before I use a stock head gasket. But if it's 6 thousands with a valve job I'll be ok right?

You need to find out if it was machined .600, .060, or .006

Theres a big difference. Cummins brand headgaskets come stock thickness, .010 thicker and .020 thicker.

While I’ve seen heads machined more than .020

I believe .020 is the max spec per Cummins.

To the OP if the machine shop had to take .060 off your head to make it flat you will have other problems then head gasket thickness. If only .006 was removed I'd check valve face depth and use a factory gasket as long as the valve face depth is within spec.
