Ok so the diesel has no codes stored anymore not surprising i guess since it has been sitting for a couple of years with dead batteries. This is obviously going to require some voltmeter testing with which I am proficient. can anyone tell me where the grid heater is and maybe a wiring diagram so that I can do for myself? |
The grid heater most likely is not your problem, at least at the moment, if it didn't start with the ether, the grid heater will not start it either if it was working.

Thanks for the reply the fuel line comes out of the fuel filter housing and goes to some contraption that then feeds fuel to each cylinder since i am not getting much fuel out of the lines downstream of this device, maybe it is the problem? is it some sort of fuel distributor? |
It is your injector pump, could be any number of things wrong there. I'm not familar with Cummins, but they may be a solenoid with wires on it attached to the injector pump, if so it may be the shutdown solenoid. Check and see if you have 12 volts there if it does have such a device. If it does not, then that may be the reason the fuel is not flowing when you cracked the injector lines.

Disconnect the VP44 wiring harness connector.
Connect pin 6 on the VP44 to battery ground. Connect pin 7 on the VP44 to battery positive. if it starts your pump is good. if it doesn't your injection pump is garbage. |
