Differance in a Dodge 12V and a bus 12V

1 Attachment(s)
Hey Guys, I've been hanging around for awhile and I have some questions .

I've been looking for a 12v or a 24v to do a swap into a project. I've been finding some cummins motors out buses or F700 trucks. I was wondering what the differences are with these motors versus one in a Dodge pick up. Attached is a representation of the vehicle that it's going in.
Thanks your input

The main issue/difference is that some of the injection pumps in yhe heavier straight trucks had 11mm barrels and plungers. Dodge trucks all have 12mm

A lot of the ones I'm seeing have P pumps on them. I don't know if that makes a difference or not. I'm some what new to the diesel world. I've been bitten by the diesel bug and I like it.
The vehicle that this is going into is going to be a camping/tow and just general use rig.
I have one of two 5spds to put in it. One is NV 4500 or a Getrag.

What do the ones that don't have p-pumps on them have? The old rotary style mechanical injection pumps can be turned up too, but generally, the p-pump is the better catch. The NV is a pretty stout handshaker, and doesn't take much to improve unlike the auto's Dodge thought would be fine behind a Cummins. The Getrag could be one of about a half million alternatives, not sure what to say about that option. What's it out of?

JBearSVT Thanks for the reply.

The ones that don't have the p-pumps on them I'm guessing they have the rotary pumps. I've been looking at both first and second gens. Also looking into both 12 and 24 valves.
The Getrag that I have is out of a 93 4X4 that had a cummins in front of it, the same for the NV4500. I only have one transfer case for the two. The NV4500 is out of a, I believe to be a 94 4X4.

Either trans should do then. I'd lean towards 12v for conversions, because you can make them run in just about anything. 24v is a little more complicated. And unless the price is hugely different (like, at least a grand more) I'd never take a rotary pumped engine over a p-pump. And to clarify that statement, I'd only take the rotary if it was that much cheaper because then I'd have the money to p-pump it.

This is one of the ads for engines in my area that I've been looking at.

Seems to me for that kind of money you aught to be able to find one that didn't come from a bus or have critters living in it for an indefinite number of years, but I've never looked for one.

:humm:The main thing I'm asking is what's wrong with using one from a bus vs using one from one out of a Dodge pickup ?:humm:

Nothing, beyond there maybe being more parts to source to make it work, but based on what it's going in it might make no difference. I believe most of the stuff that bolts on was different between applications, but the 12V is going to pull hard either way.
