Um.

High egts

JBearSVT 10-20-2016 05:21 PM

How do you know you have high EGTs? What do you consider to be "high"? Is the truck modified? What are the circumstances? First thing I'd look for is a boost leak.

Npackard34 10-20-2016 05:24 PM

Of course I have a egt gauge and yes I have mods not to many but running 1000 to 1100 at 70 75 miles an hour isnt good and I've tried some things but nothing has worked. Had a overheating problem and still do kinda. It's weird. Seems to cool great at idle but not driving... that's backwards. And sometimes it's the complete opposite. So im lost

How's your radiator and thermostat?

Npackard34 10-20-2016 06:37 PM

Brand new Radiator, thermostat, water pump, hoses, head gasket fresh coolant

1100° isn't hot. Now, if you're averaging 1100 at highway speeds something is probably less than ideal, but if it's just getting up there on hills or flats into a headwind, it isn't particularly unusual for a not stock 12V. Especially if you have anything like oversize tires (it's hard not to, the stockers are tiny).

Npackard34 10-20-2016 06:50 PM

Yes 1100 at highway speeds

JBearSVT 10-20-2016 07:39 PM

If it doesn't ever go below four digits, that is unusual. Not dangerous, but way less than ideal and it could contribute to your water temp fluctuations. How's the smoke? What kind of boost are you making at those temps?

Npackard34 10-20-2016 07:46 PM

Running a 64mm Garrett ball bearing water/oil cooled turbo and the boost is there but I have been looking into it and people have said the housing on that turbo maybe to big for my truck and with my mods I may have to get better injectors or twins or a bigger better intercooler. But all that shit cost some dough and i can't do it all at one time. Tork tech overflow valve are studs,o ringed block and head gasket,5inch downpipe to a true 4inch all the way out,no fuel plate, timming advanced,7k in the Trans. This is my first diesel so I'm kinda lost. Learning as i go

JBearSVT 10-21-2016 04:49 AM

OK, this is starting to make a little more sense. Did you build this combo or buy it that way? First thing I'd do is put a plate in, or better yet, get the AFC Live setup so you can modify things like preboost fueling on the fly and monitor the affect.

Npackard34 10-21-2016 12:15 PM

Lol this is all mechanical no computer junk on this one

94 12valve 10-21-2016 02:07 PM

"AFC Live" is for mechanical injection motors not computer injected. The name is kind of deceiving, as for your issue what Garrett turbo and housing size is on your truck? Also what is your injection timing set to?

Npackard34 10-22-2016 12:11 AM

Gt37r Garrett stage 2 dual ball bearing not sure on the housing size. Just got to Houston and ran 75 80 mph at at about 10 12 pounds of boost and depending on the road 900 to 1100 egt and the timming has been advanced but not sure how much my buddy has a shop and he did it.

94 12valve 10-22-2016 12:47 PM

does the truck idle smooth? or is it kinda choppy?

Npackard34 10-22-2016 03:28 PM

Choppy, more so now that i pit in the tork teck i think

94 12valve 10-23-2016 07:15 PM

sounds like you have an air leak somewhere in the fuel system, could be a DV o ring, injector line loose or cracked, or a leak in the fuel return. Your idle should not be choppy.
