HI !! new to the site ,first time diesel owner , I bought a 1997 dodge ram 3500 turbo diesel 4x4...duel wheels..5 speed. on the shifter there is a red **** ,which I can pull up and when I push down I hear an like an electric motor for a couple of seconds . I have been told that this a splitter for my transmission to make it like a 10 speed ..it is not attached to the rear end but behind the tranny can not find any info on it how it works...but it does not work, or I do not know how to use it...I tried different ways by letting up on the peddle ,or double clutching . anyone can give me some input on this ,,thanks... Hank..

 

You sure it isn't a PTO? (Or were you told it's a splitter by whoever sold you the truck?)

 

Thanks for your reply. Just found out it is an overdrive made by ..US.Gear duel range .by reading posts, I think it is the worm gear inside the box, I can hear it shifting but nothing happens.
