1995 cummins turbo

Hello everyone. This is my first time on a forum. I've got a 1995 cummins 5 speed. Pretty much stock besides exhaust and intake. Fuel plate has been slid forward. I've got a stock hx35 turbo and I want to make some more boost. I'm wanting to get a banks quick turbo housing and a whicked wheel compressor wheel. So my question is will this turbo still be reliable after these modifications have been done? Will it effect the life span of the turbo?

If you want to make more boost you can put an adjustable boost elbow on it, a lot of guys do it. Some claim to be able to boost up to 45 psi on the stock turbo, but that is never a good idea. Guys I know run 35 with proper fuel, and injector mods to support the added boost, with no problems.
Besides what mods you have done do you have a boost, pyro, or trans temp gauges?

I'm running 30 psi right now max. I want to be in the 45-50 range. I'll be getting head studs here soon. And yes. I have all the gauges. But I'm wondering if these mods I want to do to the turbo will sacrifice it's reliability and life span.

There's really no reason to run a hx35 at that boost level other then to tell your buddies home much boost you make. Your just pumping hot air. And the Benefit of a compressor wheel and housing will be minimal. And you would be far better off getting a better turbo for the cost and effort. Run at the proper boost for that turbo. I suggest a bd super b or killer b from what it sounds you want.

IMO if you are going buy another turbo I would not go any smaller than a 62mm compressor wheel.

you can get a 63mm turbo drop in with downpipe and some bigger injectors capable of over 500HP for under $1500

Boost is resistance to flow. you can get more power at 25psi with a bigger turbo that 40psi with your stock one. It will last years instead of months and temps will be lower. The 14cm housing is not worth $500 for you to upgrade.
