emissions testing. ...blah

I have a 96 Cummins with 328k and it rolls coal with the best of them and thats the problem. I live in Gilbert AZ and have to get it through emissions. How do I fix it or just get it through emissions? I used to have a little Nissan pickup that I just put denatured alcohol and it passed it ran like crap for the rest of the day but it made it through emissions. Any help would be Awesome.

Kruze. 96 03-31-2015 04:41 PM

No mods that I know of.

Is your truck a 3/4 or 1 ton? One of my dads trucks is a 99 dodge ctd dually, totally stock. He lives in AZ. He told me that they do a "snap-test" in which they did WOT from idle to max RPMs(no load), 3 times, and his passed. He said his trk blew soot all 3 times, but only right off idle. The soot lightened up at higher revs.

I reckon you could change your fuel filter, air filter, and change the oil, add Power service (gray bottle) to your fuel. Drive it hard and get it good and hot, then take it in for testing.

Yeah that's the test they did. To pass it has to be around 40 and mine was an 84. My truck is a 3/4 ton.

Does your truck have a catalytic converter? Ya know if youre still running the original injectors, at that mileage you claim, they could just be worn and allowing a bit more fuel, causing your excessive smoke. A water injection system would certainly help, but they can be quite pricey.

Yeah I think it does I guess u just assumed that it had a C.C. but don't know for sure. Do you know of a good place to get new injectors? Amazon? Ebay? Are places like that reliable for good partsat decent prices?

Check out the vendors on this site. They will steer you in the right direction right. They can be pricey though. If ya dont have a CC, maybe you can buy or borrow one and just use it for emissions, then take it back out & replace with a straight pipe. Check and see if its got a CC. Maybe its what ya need to make it pass.

I live in mesa, You do not need a C.C on your truck in arizona to pass emissions unless its says so under the hood, your issue is you failed your opacity test. I can almost garruntee your star wheel and fuel plate as been messed with so now you "roal coal" but fail emissions. Return it to stock and just do a self snap test and see how much smoke it puffs a small puff and you will pass the opacity test. If you need help to with that lemme know I can come and help you.
