1998 12 valve boost limits
Would 45psi of boost be safe with on a cummins 12v with stock studs? Herd if you simply re
Torque them you good 45psi? Is that a Myth or what? Ha idk.. You guys tell me. |
The myth is boost blowing head gaskets.
|
Indeed. If 45psi blows a head gasket (and it can) it's only because it was already compromised. 1998 12V's in particular tend to have a little bit worse machine work on the deck than others, so the heads don't always fit perfectly flat. Regardless, boosting stock parts that high is more likely to burn up your stock turbo than blow a head gasket.

you won't likely blow it at 45 psi with the bd special. most gaskets blow because of drive pressure and cylinder pressure, your running a large turbine side and not very much timing so you should be good for a while. are studs suggested, yes. very much so. your into performance diesels and skimping on important parts is never a good idea, but it will last you a good while if you don't drive like a dick. also the 300 marines probably aren't that efficient and have a lot of unburnt fuel so your cal pressure is also likely a bit lower because of that

i've been blowing 80lbs an nos threw mine for 3 yrs an no issues, no rings!!
