:rocking:
whats up guys new here. got myself a 97 12v cummins! first truck and looking to upgrade it some. so i was browsing on here as a guest alot and decided to go ahead and start off with a cold air intake. well i was looking on ebay and found a complete cold air intake system from a smaller company called summit customs. i emailed them and talked a little and i decided to buy it. :yeah:
anyways long story short, i got it in the mail. put it on my truck and it was amazing! very clean looking. i got the red one not the "raw" looked as shown in the pics. couldnt ask for anything better!! great look amazing price too!! 152$$ cant beat that! will be posting pics later when i get back home!!
just figure it was a good product and dont mind helping rep a small company!

Depends what your budget will allow and how far you wanna go. Couple grand and tuning and it's easy to make over 400. Less money and just tuning and mods some simple stuff a solid 300. Your limiting factor is the turbo, head studs, and transmission. Not to rain on your parade but for 80-100 dollars you could have gotten the afe bhaf mod of whichever material you want with a pre filter and it would supply more than enough air on the stock tube. You can still swap the filter to that on the new tube. Get a little more flow. Cold airs are kind of a gimmick especially for 12 valve trucks. Figure out a budget then we could direct you in the right direction.

Well I can't say I have any comain't with this intake. Why would I need any bigger filter if I'm not making crazy power? Also It did make quite a difference in power. Alot more peppy and throttle response is alot better

Well you just asked for more power and you can deliver far more fuel than air at this point so anymore air is good. And it's about volume not flow like how a coa is supposed to make extra power. Don't get me wrong a coa especially for that price is always an upgrade but the size of the filter is more important. Aswell oiled filters are not ideal for diesels. That's why a bhaf or afe dry bhaf is a better choice. Anywho you got what you want and like it, it will serve the purpose fine. Especially if you plan to stick under 300 hp with the stock hx35. As for mods; fuel plate (grind your own and adjust as needed), boost elbow, afc mods and tuning, 3gsk or 4gsk and valve springs, dv's maybe, gauges first and foremost, exhaust obviously, and mild timing. If you plan for big power later do things accordingly.

Well wat should some of the things that I should do to turn the fuel up?

Do you have gauges? If you don't plan to switch turbos get a boost elbow first or clamp the gate but you need gauges. Then read a afc thread and a fuel plate thread aswell. Personally I think a plate could be cut to a 0/100 style plate and put 3/4 forward and you'd be ok. And afc full forward aswell as star wheel all the way loose. All worked for my buddies 98. Nearly no smoke with the gate clamped. Don't touch the smoke screw and after all that watch the smoke level at certain throttle positions like reg accel and hard accel and tune down for minimal smoke. Make sure you understand the afc though. Next mod is the 3 or 4gsk, makes a big dif

where do i find out about the afc and fuel plate and smoke screw and waste gate?

wpg6.5 11-04-2014 10:04 PM

Google? There's a couple rookie threads that explain it really well as long as your mechanical. Don't go messing with stuff until you get gauges tho. Even tho it's hard with a stock plate or even stock fuel and governer you can still hurt the engine possibly.
