S464
I'm curious if anyone has experience running a Borg s464 as a single. I just purchased a Hamilton 188/220 109lsa cam for a killer price with push rods so it's kind of pushed my turbo decisions towards something larger. I'm more drawn to a s400 chassis due to robustness and the 64 claims lbs of air slightly higher than a bd special with very similar sizing. Curious if anyone had a specific reason this turbo is good or bad. Thanks. Also wanna run spray so it should hold up better than a s300

the s464 is much larger than a bd special ... it is a great choice for a cheap charger but it will be a laggy. I have ran one before as a single on my 94 back when I used to DD it. Had a 181/210 cam at the time and it was still laggy, turbo will make great top end power tho. If you do go with that s464 get the .9 housing with it.

Ya I plan on going with the .9, also a steed speed manifold. Hopefully the 188/220 helps spool it a bit more. Do you think there's an advantage in going billet?

there's the obvious bling advantage.
Might be stronger depending on what they cut it out of. |
I was thinking only fleeces or Ed's as they seem to be the only real company's that actually may have r&d into the wheels

cast wheel run |
Alright, thanks for the input. For 800 bucks a 64/73/.9 t4 turbo is a good deal so I'll prob stick with the cast unit and just spend the money on a 360 bearing upgrade and a steed speed. I am a little curious why you say it's much larger than a special though. The s464 is supposed to be a 63.5/73/ and the special is a 64.5/71 so other than maybe the out side of the wheels and the shaft of the turbo they are generally similar sizes?

You will see what I'm talking about if you go the s400 route there all around bigger than the s300's. The special is a 64/71/14 t3 the s400 will have a bigger turbine wheel turbine housing comp cover and comp wheel. Along with stronger bearings and turbine shaft.

Ok, that's kinda what I figured. Just over all larger. from what I read the 188/220 cam is great for spooling. So hoping it won't be too bad. My injectors will be a little small but I'll make them work for now as they are brand new
