Fuel problems
 

I have a 97 dodgeram auto
It was running fine I cut it of and a few minutes later it would crank but would not idle r rev over 1200rpm. I let it set about 2 hours and it ran fine the next day it done it again that afternoon. I put a new fuel pump and filter, and no change. It has 365,000 miles.put 5in exhaust and fuel plate and cold several months back.PLEASE HELP

Check fp to the p-pump.

How about the shutoff solenoid? Have your buddy bubba hold it up and see if it's runs. Tie it up and drive it. You can either replace it, or go to the cable system

It sounds like it's a pump governor problem there is a lot of moving parts in there that work that governor and believe me a p pump can do some crazy stuff man... With that much mileage I would check that SOS and if that makes no change then I would start leaning towards the governor

I would start with fuel pressure ..
How much fuel is in tank ?
can u hear or see Fuel Solinoid move when the key is turned on ?

And actually it could just be the ofv (if you still have the stock one) the springs inside that thing just get weak and give up under low pressure

hence the ned for fuel pressure #'s .. Diag not tossin parts at random, Either way the OFV is a good upgrade even when they run "Just fine" ... then you pick up mpg .. lol:c:

Not tossing parts, only doing what other so called mech said.Fuel pressure is 20 #before injection pump. what is OFV? I am disabled and ws hoping someone else had this problem and knew what to do.Everyone on here has a different solution.

Everyone is a different person, I can personally say that I worked with justanother_cummins_guy, and we do things lets say not quite the same.
Anyway the ofv stands for over flow valve. It is located in between the p-pump and the engines head, it is also on a sorts a return line, take the fitting apart and there will be a spring and what not in there, they make replacement units that will bump up fuel pressure a little bit

This will allow ya to adjust your fuel pressure .. set @ 30 from the factory .. will go to about 35 Psi ... :tu:

I had several leaks on my return line as well .. this made my truck run SOOOO much better .. bump the key and it fores up W/O the heaters ..
