Truck won't start
My 97 12v isn't wanting to start when I try to do so the starter just clicks. It has two new batteries, new alternator, new starter all the fuses are good. And It's not cold I live in Texas so its not wanting to start when It's hot out.

Starter solinoid is toast or the starter motor is seized up ..
Might try to smack it with a dead blow hammer ..( DONT USE METAL HAMMERS ) you wont get your core charge if the casing is dented !!!:argh: |
What causes it to seize up? Also my battery gauge is stuck at 12.
|
You may need to jusp the batteries for a bit ....
Dirt, sand, Moisture, ..... all the above :c: |
Can the starter solenoid be toasted even though It's new?
|
YUP happens all the time ..
Might wanna check to make sure there is power @ the trigger wire when the ignition is in the start position .. sometimes the relay goes bad too .. |
I also failed to say that it'll run for a couple days then just stop then again for a few more days then it just completely stop last Saturday. This has been going on for about two weeks now.
|
Starter is likley not good :td:
|
The starter is least then a week old.
|
*less.

Have you tried to jump the solenoid?
I had the same issue with my 51 Hudson, the starter was brand new, solenoid was NOS. I could get the starter to kick over by connecting a positive jumper lead to the battery, and the other one to the lead off of the starter solenoid to the starter itself. Found out that even though the solenoid was "brand new" it was broken, I got a replacement from NAPA believe it or not. |
No, I have not tried that.
|
If you get the same results when you do that test, unfortunately it is an issue with the starter itself, if you have just bought it and it has a warranty take it back, and have it replaced
|
Well my battery cable leading down to the starter is shot to hell so hopefully that's the problem. Anybody know where to get two gauge positive cable at?
|
I would check Napa they will most likely be your best bet if you have one around you, if not a car quest or O'Reillys may have it
|
I checked O'Reilly last night all they have is four gauge, NAPA I checked online all they have is four gauge. I don't think we have a Car Quest here in Texas but I'll look it up.

Well got a new cable and my truck fired right up, but my batteries are not changing for some reason. New alternator again so I don't know What's the problem. |
Sounds like a bad starter - check all connections. Tap the starter while someone is turning the key - sometimes it works wonders!
