Automatic transmission Help
So i recently bought a 97 ram 2500 club cab lb and the automatic transmission that has 20000 miles on it is slipping when not in lockup. you have to rev the engine to 2000 rpm to go anywhere. when i put the truck away it was fine and i started it today to put some new goodies on it and now this. I know there are lots of threads on this but not many with a completely stock transmission :argh:

Put it in neutral for a minute after starting. The fluid can drain back and it takes a minute or two to pressure back up. It does not pressurize in park.
Does the fluid smell burnt, or appear dark? |

I started the truck today. fluid smelled burnt and was a little dark for my liking. but it did not slip at all. was 100 percent fine? Going to flush the fluid and adjust the bands and limp er along:tu:

Often won't slip when cold. Thicker fluid grips and seals better.
My guess is your forward clutches are toasted. |

My guess is your forward clutches are toasted. i let it run in drive with the brake on for 10 minutes so it should have been pretty warm:humm: |
really not the best idea to be letting it warm up in drive. . .park disengages the forward clutches. in D they should be engaged and attempting to grip.
