Default not charging and loses tach

Hi I have a 98 12 valve and a few weeks ago my tach started to jump around while driving. Then it got to where it would work for a little while then drop to 0 and my truck would stop charging and the trans would drop out of od. For a while if reved it up it would all start to work until it dropped back into od and the rpms would drop then I would lose charging the tach and od. I have changed the alternator wiggled wires (with mixed results) and pulled off the ess and cleaned and regapped it. But still the same problem. Seems to be getting worse. Now a lot of times even reved up it won't charge. And ideas?

Well I went to go re adjust the ess and got shocked so I ordered a new one and installed it. Works perfect. Must have been shorting out internally. But all is right now and working great
