Transmission Fluid

Whenever I check my fluid it drives me nuts because it is hard to tell where the level is. If I get out of the truck and check it immediatly there are a good amount of bubbles on the dipstick which seem to clear up in about a minute, but even then there are a couple which make it hard to see where the level is. The pics below are checking it when the fluid was 170* immediatly after stopping and 3min later. Is this normal?

Yup wamed up, in neutral, engine running, and on level ground.

Do you load it through the gears before N? Idle hot for at least a minute then with the brake on, let it load for a second in 1st, 2nd, 3rd, then N and check it. I've seen bubbles out the wazoo, but I've never seen it separate like that. My initial assumption would be that you're low.

How much should it need between low and full levels. Added 3/8 qt to see if it read better and it seems to be less bubbles, but reads like 1/4 above full so I'm not sure it was low.

I believe the cross hatching of the safe zone covers one quart.

Ok that's what I was gonna guess. I guess it was full and just being a pain to read.

yes the cross hatches are a 1 qt zone .. if it's bubbling excessivly or bubbling excessivly, I woudl reccomend a flush ( like @ jiffy lube T-Tech ) .. flushed filter, TC, and pan out .. and you will know if there is any restrictions as they have a guage on the machine and can reference the Line pressure :tu:
