Please help!
Ran my cummins out of fuel. I was bleeding the injectors lines and it would spit and spudded couldn't get to run long. I was priming it more and then I got a weird noise in the motor and seems like it is turning over really free. I crank it over my fan spins. It sounds like the start and hitting the flywheel all the way but I no it is cause it's turning over but not running. Any help???

so it you hear the starter spinning but not engageing into the flywheel? just a free spin?
|
If i read the gibberish right, he is saying it turns over but it is like it has no compression, spins free. he knows the starter is engaging as the fan spins when he cranks it.

When you were bleading the injectors you took the line nut off correct? not the injector hold down I hope |

Yeah, loosning the returns would be a bad deal too, I always bleed mine @ the pump, usually fires quickly ...

Describe this weird noise it's making.
Why did you crack any lines? I've run mine out of fuel several times, and never had to crack a line or bleed anything to get it running again, just prime the LP by hand and go. |
Noise
It's like a crunching noise mixed with gring of metal

If the crunching and grinding is coming from the starter area, I would suggest it is not lining up properly. Check and make sure you have not broken or lost a bolt and that it is indeed hitting straight. If the noise is coming from other than the starter, stop until you can get an idea of what it may be.

I just replaced mine a couple weeks ago, at least they are relatively long lasting in these ones. I had a Suburban that ate them like candy lol.

go to the Larry B's web site .... they have multiple parts for the starters ..
Larryb - LarryB's Cummins & Dodge Denso Starter COMPLETE rebuild kit 94-06 and its not real difficult to accomplish ... a decent work bench and a vise is real handy but can be done on the tail gate if need be .. :choochoo: |
And do not continuously crank the starter, 30 sec crank max then 2-3 minutes cool down or certain started death will occur!:scare2:
|
Dezeldoc is right .. 30 seconds .. I tell anyone 5 min .. just cause ..:c:
