Transmission temperature sensor help
 

Ive read a few things about how to install a tranny temp sensor on the 12v cummins. And i think the easiest and most accurate way is to install a T in the cooler lines. But i got a manual and was wondering if they have cooler lines. Maybe this is a stupid question, i dont know. Just looking for some help on where you guys think is the best place to install the sensor. Do you have to tap a hole in you transmission and install the sensor that way?

the Manual transmissions dont have a cooler or a pump to move the fluid other that the gears moving the fluid around ...


there are 2 rectangle covers on the trans, find the one thats lower on the side of the trans. drain your trans, pull the cover, ( I hope your sensor or you know where to get the correct size and thread insert, or a nut ) you will want the sensor as low in trans as you can accomidate with out touching anything and still be in the fluid level ...

I have used Pyro bungs that you can weld into the covers .. they work great .. the you just re-seal with grey permatex and fill the trans ( make sure both surfaces are oil free ) .

ok, remember , measure , pre-fit, and then do the work ... prepare for a whole day's worth of fitting and such .. worst case senario .. I try real hard to plan for the worst

So you take the lowest rectangualr piece off your tranny, and then can you drill a hole in that piece and tack weld a nut over the hole that has the right thread for your sensor. And then install everything. Would that work? Thanks for the info by the way. Ya i dont want to mess it up
