rack plug question

so i bought the rack plug/mac plug whatever you guy prefer calling it and i am having a guy tell me not to run it, it can cause the shaft to stick and run away. Is that true and cant i just unscrew the old plug and slap the new one. which i did and i have the injection pump off of the truck

As long as you're running a plate it should be fine. If you take the fuel plate out though, there could be an issue. Don't take my word for it though, wait for somebody else to chime in.

fact of the rack plug is that the barrels only can spin so far before they actually start de-fueling the opposite way. this is in the 19-20mm rack travel rhelm. a 2095 will allow for 21mm of travel so in some cases at WOT you can loose a little bit with a plug. as far as a runaway thats pretty crazy unless you have damaged barrels and plungers and they stick once they now rotate into an unworn area of the bores. super tight tolerences, metal to metal in the barrel and plunger assembly. so tight pressurized fuel cant pass through so if there is scoring you could stick a rack.

LostSoul71 05-30-2014 08:14 PM

I was informed that unless you remove the fuel plate all together, the 2095 plug is not ever touched as the plate limits travel. Is that not the case?

JBearSVT 05-30-2014 08:26 PM

That's what I was told as well.

turbo2332 05-30-2014 08:54 PM

if you utilize a stock profile plate i believe that is true.

4x4manonbroke 05-30-2014 10:25 PM

use a #0 plate ... ditch the plug and dont worry about having an engine that Over Speeds ....

Never funny ...

JBearSVT 05-31-2014 05:43 AM

I wonder if I'm even at risk of that, with my fuel shut off on a choke cable.

This is the part where it becomes obvious that I really don't understand how it works.

94 12valve 05-31-2014 11:52 AM

wow ... The 2095 plug is a great upgrade for these p pumps. If installed incorrectly yes the rack can hang and cause a runaway, this was pretty common when trying to shim the stock plug or trying to shim the 2095 plug. There is a rack guide behind the plug that is held into place with the rack plug. When shimmed it is allowed to move and could cause the rack to hang.

When installing the plug do not move the throttle with the plug out this will cause the guide to move or fall out, do not add any shims to the plug other than the one provided, and make sure the plug after tightened is tight with the housing like the old plug was. After install and everything is tight move the throttle back and forth a few times just to make sure everything is ok.

To make full use of the plug you will need the correct fuel plate and a modded afc

Sounds like a PITA ... un needed, get a good fuel plate....

is there really and street usage to the plug or is it something that is more for competition usage ??

JBearSVT 05-31-2014 06:05 PM

I was under the impression it was most beneficial for dyno usage.

Emphasis on "was".

4x4manonbroke 05-31-2014 06:30 PM

For street usage, a good plate and properly tuned AFC will do wonders ..

94 12valve 06-01-2014 07:32 AM

the plug works well for street or competition

4x4manonbroke 06-01-2014 06:39 PM

So is it more fuel availability or ???

what is the exact pro to having a plug vs a good ground fuel plate and tuned AFC. ???

JBearSVT 06-01-2014 06:48 PM

More rack travel?

turbo2332 06-01-2014 08:16 PM

more top end fuel is the only benifet of a rack plug. you will see no difference in anyting unless you are @ WOT

yes more fuel is available that is the advantage of the plug ... even with a good plate and tuned afc you still can't get full rack travel without installing the plug.

Depending on your plate choice and afc set up mid range fueling could also be increased.

4x4manonbroke 06-01-2014 11:29 PM

Awesome ... will have to set that up @ my local fuel shop ... too much can go wrong for me to bother ... LOL

AND i have many other things to do with that time ... like take a break form all the working on stuff ..LOL

94 12valve 06-02-2014 08:32 PM

its really not that bad at all worst part is having to reset the timing

4x4manonbroke 06-02-2014 10:10 PM

And with an adjustable timing gear that would be taken care of easily ... I'm begingin to like how easy things can be if you just have some of that elusive $$$$$... Guess I should get my arse to work then ..lol

cummins Pride 06-03-2014 11:37 AM

So with a #o full plate pushed all the way up, and afc wfo id only notice a difference at wot

94 12valve 06-03-2014 04:36 PM

with no afc and a true 0 plate pushed full forward you would notice a difference when you push the throttle. It will be a smoke pig down low which is not at all what you want.

4x4manonbroke 06-03-2014 05:06 PM

I think he was referring to the plug making a difference only at WOT ...

JBearSVT 06-03-2014 05:39 PM

It only ever will.

4x4manonbroke 06-03-2014 08:09 PM

Thats waht were being told ... I dont spend that much time there so I'm thinking this might be a waste of money for me too do ... I aint racin yet !!!

JBearSVT 06-04-2014 05:27 PM

Me either. I'm much more interested in how fast it is without wringing the hell out of it than in how fast it actually is.

4x4manonbroke 06-04-2014 08:35 PM

Good towing power is far more important ... The occasional 1/4 mile trip doesn't really seem worth anything more than a good plate and AFC tuning

JBearSVT 06-05-2014 08:52 PM

Seeing as how I spend about 30% of my time pulling trailers that weigh twice as much as my truck... yeah.

4x4manonbroke 06-05-2014 10:46 PM

Yeah, towing and racing WOT .. kinda two different animals when it comes to tuning it in
