Which pigtail was attached to the tranny before?
 
Howdy, everybody.

As you can see from the signature down below, I've got an "early" 98 that came with an automatic. It now sports a G56 from an '06. The backup lights don't work, because the installer didn't wire the tranny's reverse switch to the truck's pre-existing circuitry. Ziptied to the frame-rail, I've got two idle electrical connections and I don't know what they're for. One's a two-element plug, somewhat oval-shaped, and the other's a three-element plug, more round-shaped. Which one of those (if either) was for the previous tranny's reverse switch? If I'm really lucky, it'll be the two-element connector.


If that's the case, does polarity matter? Mis-mating the tranny's switch connector is a non-issue since those wires were clipped, and have no connector. I'll have to buy and wire in a mated pair, anyway. Or should I just run an independent switch from the cab?

Either way, I'm tired of having no backup lights when I'm going backwards.

You wil need to get the Diagram of the switch in question from dodge most likley or someone who may know which connector to plug what into ...

You could plug in power to 1 post and see which other connector comes to life when shifted into R .. ??

Ohm it out in reverse see if it has contact in reverse. Pop it to neutral and see if the contact is off. I'm not hooking mine up. Not on my give a damn list

Resistance was "zero" with lever in "R" :tu: . The guy who removed the tranny from the donor vehicle left the original plug attached to the switch, but, clipped the wires AND left a little bit of wire uninsulated, so I was able to check that. since I'm using a cheap meter without alligator clips, *yeah. I know... super easy/super lazy fix... just haven't been over to Radio Shack this morning*, I didn't verify "infinite" resistance when out of Reverse..... Still need to identify the truck's side of the wiring. I've got a Haynes manual here. Might help. Even then, I'm going to wait until after I'm moved to Ft Worth. Son lives there, and is more agile than I am, for cramped-quarters work.

Did that already! He's 21 and has had the Ramcharger in my signature since age 14, and knows it from stem to stern
