possible crooked front axle?
hello and thank you for reading my post
Today i installed some 315/75/16 Toyos on my 96 ram 2500. The left front tire is further back than the right side. The left front tire will rub on the fender near the door about almost 1/2 inch while the right side will not rub at all while i turn. there is a noticeable gap difference between the two. I inspected under the truck and saw the left side caster adjust is maxed out and the left side is almost neutral. the control arm bushings are pretty dry rotted and i need a new track bar. my question is how can "re center the axle" I plan on doing a 2 inch leveling kit a new track bar, and new control arm bushings. what else would i need to get/do to get the job done right. Thank you for reading my post, zaposo666 |
I would say check the bushings in your control arms. Or you may have a bent control arm. There is also an adjustment on the axle on the lower control arm you can move it some and gain some or all

thanks for the response coors_man_2005 ill have the front end guy at work look it over with me i was thinking a bent control arm as well because last alignment check showed they were in the green

finally had the front end guy at work look the suspension over and said to replace the worn track bar and suggested new extended control arms to go with the leveling kit then check alignment.

yeah your gonna need to fix theat front end ... nothing can be done with a bunch of bad bushings ... but when its doen it sure will be nice ...
I remember doing my F250 ... was amazed after i re-built fornt end and new tires and alignment ... was like driving a new truck ... YAY !!! |
yeah bought this truck from a farmer and it probably hasn't seen this much tlc since it was still under factory warranty. but i still love to drive it and cant wait to it hits 500,000 (its at 239,000 now) so i wanna make sure every thing is done properly and have a reliable piece of machinery as it was meant to be enjoyed.

If all else fails after that check with your local body shops and see if they will put it on a frame machine. My 4x4 had been tweaked and I did not see it until I put the 36" military tires on. Same issue you had. Guys at the shop pulled it back in spec for me.
