power steering
this week my power steering began leaking but it came out of the top where the power steering reservoir cap is. i believe it is air raiding so a bought a new pump today and am curious about a few things. the fluid that is in there looks like sh*t and i want to flush out the whole system the only way i could think was taking of the low pressure house and turning the wheel while adding more fluid in tell it comes out clean is there a better way? also is there just four bolts on the reservoir itself or am i in surprise :scare2: ? if any one has done this and could help out it would be very appreciated.

Connect a hose to the resivore , and use a brass union in the old return line .... fire up truck , and fill as the pump is pumping out the old fluid .. i used 3 gallons of fresh ATF ... then i allowed the system to drain ... then installed Synthetic atf and now i can steer with one finger ... in town even..:tu:

yes, four studs on the reservoir. be careful not to break the oil pressure sensor that is right behind it like i did. you would probably be money ahead just to remove it before you start. I just kept using a hose and a bottle to suck all the fluid out and replace it. it took about 3-4 times before it was clean. i also added an inline filter on the return line.

you used three gallons? or quarts? how much does the system hold?

I flushed the heck out of mine ... it was BLACK as the oil ... and burnt smelling ....
now with the synthetic stuff ... its so nice even the wife likes driving the truck now :c: |
