Top speeds??
Hey fellas, just looking for feedback so I can compare. Those of yous that have 4:10 gears, what kind of top speeds are yous getting? So far I've had mine at 92mph not sure at what rpm. At 60mph I'm at 2000rpms.

110 ish
120ish with the 3.54's but slower getting there same rpms'ish at 60mph as you (33's) 3.54's were about 300 rpms lower in OD |
Ah yea I'm glad you mentioned tire size, I completely forgot about them. I'm running 285's.

I have 265's and 4.10 cogs ... GPS says 92 mph ... @ 3200
with 373's i would pumch about 108 with 3.55's i should hit 114 now at 4k .. were movin ... with 3.55's i should get about 142 mph ... in a perfect world :rocking::choochoo: The reason I know this is that im contemplating a 1/4 mile set up ... just for fun not all out killer .... so i been looking though different top speeds and possible trap speeds .. http://www.grimmjeeper.com/gears.html .... Gear ratio calculator here ... even if your 2wd .. just put in genaric t-case ..... and choose your rpm, tire size, gears and OD/UD ... Enjoy |

what were your times with the 3.54's? and the 4.10's kill your highway cruising. i used to cruise at 74 and 1700rpms not anymore. BUT im rarely on the interstate with this truck and it pulls a trailer so much better with the lower gears.
|
With the 3:55's I ran a 15.3 @90mph. I didn't have all the goodies I do now though. I kinda miss the cause I use to be able to cruise to ocean city on just a quarter tank of fuel.

you still can just 15mph slower. LOL and this is me personally but who cares about running 140 in a 7000lbs truck? stop light to stop light smashing is way funner. if you want a drag truck get an s10 and big block it. you will break less and it will cost about 10k less to build.
|
Don't get me wrong I enjoy stop light to stop light as well but I really enjoy putting match box cars in their place on the highway lol

How many gearing options did these things come with? For some reason I've got it in my head that mine were 3.73's when I rebuilt the rear diff, but it was years ago and I've never talked to anyone else who had them, until 4x4man chimed in above. That said, with my 285's I'm doing about 2K at 80mph, which seems to be right between you 3.55 and 4.10 guys. I've never felt the need to see what my top speed is, but it's sure feels like it's got a lot of steam left at 90.
|
That would prolly be about right. As far as different gear options there's a good bit. 3:55's, 3:73's, 4:10's, 4:54's. many people that I have talked to about 3:55's also called them 3:54's. the dealership I gave my vin to to check the factory gearing an try told me they were 3:55's

My 3500 4x4 has 4.10s with the stock governor springs and about 81 mph down hill is all shes got!! i cruise at 55 right at 2,000 rpms. Not as good as my fuel mileage in my other one with 3.54s. But you cant put a price on how much better the 4.10s pull. On a good day ill get 16-17 mpg on 265s. My other one i had with 3.54s sittin on 35" terra grapplers would get 23-25 all day long.
|
they came with 3.54's and 4.10's only from the factory.
|
A few of my frineds have factory 3.73's ... my understanding is that it was a special option ?? but .. 373's @ 4 K ... is damn fast , I too wouldnt like to see my 6K truck rollign at that speed unless i had a paraschute ...LOL:c:
|
Yeah, I have 4K springs and scale 7200lbs with the bulk tank full. It seems perfectly composed as fast as I've had it, but it ain't no sports car and I'm not particularly confident in seeing what it'll do flat out. Last thing I drove daily was a ZX10R, so it was years before driving this rig on the highway didn't feel like running underwater as it is.
|
Yea I believe you could order your truck with 3:73's.
Are any of yous running 5k springs in your rigs? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
I still have the yellow sheet from the original owner, it would... probably... say on there. Since it had a breakdown of the costs of the other options. Like the Cummins, which he paid more to upgrade to than I paid for the truck :tu:
---AutoMerged DoublePost--- Huh. I'm not sure where it went now. I did find where he paid $699 for a "Auto Armor lifetime no rust guarantee". LOL. Wonder how many people ever got there money's worth out of that with these trucks... |
Haha a hint of false advertising was there?

Fuel isn't what it was anymore either, at least not around here. Local folks I knew last year bragging about low to mid twenties are complaining that they can't get out of the teens anymore, all that's changed is the fuel. Water it down with more bullshit, and charge us more for it. Quite a racket...
|
I have been adding ATF to my fuel ... makes about .5 mpg or more on freeway ... :yeah:
|
I ran a hydraulic oil fuel mix (long story) through my truck once and I got the best fuel mileage I've ever had with that.
