Glowshift gauges

I've decided to get a set of glow-shift gauges. a 60psi boost gauge a pryometer and fuel pressure. My problem is that they offer for pryometer a 1500F or a 2400F gauge. The fuel pressure gauge goes to 30psi or 100psi. So im wondering if bigger is better (they are the same price no matter what size) or if smaller works just as good and you should never go over this much or it could be fatal to your engine. My truck is stock as of now i would like to upgrade so what I am really wondering is what is the optimal psi for the fuel pressure and tempt for pryometer and what should i never go over?

Pyro- approximately 1300 for extended time will cause problems. If serious power is made you MAY reach above that but it is unlikely and unwise in a DD
Fuel- this one depends on the lift pump and fuel requirements. 30 psi may be exceeded stock. I run a 60 psi gauge for what it is worth... (FYI you need a diaphragm to keep fuel from cab. Be sure you get that.)
Boost- again depends upon setup but for a DD single 60psi should be sufficient. Again, this is what I run.
Also, an old racers trick is to rotate gauges in pod so that your max values are at 12 noon. (I left pyro alone as it is color coded. )
Hope it helps.:rocking:

That diaphragm you speak of would not happen to be the snubber valve or banjo bolt they offer to buy with? I am pretty sure one is just so it dosent spike during start up or do i have to buy some sort of diaphragm with the gauges?

Glowshift have a bad reputation just FYI :c:

Vmason 02-27-2014 07:22 PM

I dint not know that could you recommend something better? Preferably something that wont clean out my piggy bank

Do it right or save till you can .... go Autometer and dont look back ... you'll only have to buy them once ..:tu:

I bought ISSPRO

Lets muddy the water a little. You need both.

To properly install a F.P. gauge into the cab of a vehicle a diaphragm is used. This stops fuel from coming into the cab. The line running from said diaphragm to the in cab gauge is usually filled with anti-freeze. This avoids many possible issues from fires to smell.... you get the idea

Snubber valve- ball valve etc. are all commonly used on trucks with mechanical fuel lift pumps. The pulsing of the pump (natural) will shorten the life of a F.P. gauge without a "snubber"

All that said...
I run Isspro gauges. Love them. Bought a package deal (came with diaphragm but no snubber) I installed a valve to keep bouncing in check. 3 years later and I believe I have killed the F.P. gauge anyway :argh:

A banjo bolt is a hollow bolt used to flow fluid. They are common throughout the fuel system. This is likely where you will tie into for your gauge (ie: outlet of F.F. or intake of I.P.)

Hope it helps:rocking:

I have used Autometer in everything I have owned. I will say everyone I know that has run Glow shift has had issues with them. Not worth waisting money on to be honest. I have not run Isspro but I have never heard a complaint either.

I run glow-shifts gauges, trans temp, pyro, boost and fuel pressure. I have had any problems with mine.

One in a million sets would be of good enough quality.... I ran Equius gushes from car quest for quite a while ... The worked ... Never had any issues , then I swapped on one day, ... Could not believe the engine was running onn8 psi of oil pressure in a SBC ... Changed that gauge to an autometer, sure enough it was real low ...

moral of the story ... How much you willing to bet that they are correct ???? New 6bt is somewhere in the line up of 7-10K on. budget build.... Know what I mean ...

Agreed. Just because they don't crash and burn in an obviously horrific fashion doesn't mean they're accurate. There seems to be two schools of thought on Glowshift: those who love them, and those who hate them. There doesn't appear to be any middle ground. That being the case, I avoided them. I've had my ISSPRO's for about... oh... hm. At least 140K, and they've been great. They're all electric, which means no diaphragms, and no fuel (oil, antifreeze, or anything else) run into the cabin. I've been a firm believer in mechanical gauges for my whole life, but the reputation of ISSPRO put my mind to rest with this purchase. They weren't cheap, but I did get a good deal from a vendor here in the Armory and for the life I've gotten from them so far they were well worth it. Hell, just the trans temp alone has saved my ass more than once. Nobody asked, but here's my setup:

I appear to be getting my money's worth out of the sweep on that boost gauge... think it's about time for a new one :w2:

Nobody asked, but here's my setup (please excuse the crappy cameraphone pics, especially the second one while I was pulling a trailer onto the highway):

double post

4x4manonbroke 05-10-2014 10:06 AM

LOL...OOPS !!!!

Yeah looks like the boost gauge needs to go to 100 or so ... maybe it wont be so easy to peg out ... LOL

JBearSVT 05-10-2014 10:42 AM

I think I should be ok with a 50 or 60, not exactly sure what my options are.

Fairly certain a 100 would be way more than enough though! lol

LostSoul71 05-10-2014 06:28 PM

My buddy's truck 99 F250 ran them and his Pyro always seemed cooler than I expected. We ran my Auto meter and it was indeed 200* colder on his than the AM. We took his digital temp gun and pegged the manifold at the probe and my unit was correct.

4x4manonbroke 05-11-2014 11:32 PM

I have replaced my pyro probe 1 time .. and it was the same .. so ... I have a spare

flatbedr 07-26-2014 02:28 AM

stay away from glow shift!!!! they look cool, have a bunch of options an are fairly priced. but they suck. i have 4. they all malfunction. mine are all electric. i have a 3in 1 combo. egt is the big sweep, psi an at temp is digital. it flashes randomly. it will peg the egt then go to 0 then back then flash an do all sorts of stupid shit. then i have a egt in another truck it does same type of stuff. the psi makes a whistle noise around 50psi. and the fuel gauge is shit. all over the place. an yes i have the snubber. electric sender.but its all bad an they did this like after a month. spend the money an go auto meter/ isspro. .......period.....or what. never mind i have a set of glow shift gauges for sale in a triple pod for a 98. i dont need them. :humm:i also have the snow kit so i have double gauges now. sell them to u cheap.
