Default Starting still a problem!!??

I have a 96 12 valve cummins. Can't figure this out. I go to start it and I have to hold my key the whole way (like to start) for about 5-10 seconds before I let it go or it'll die. Idle is set 900 or little above and brand new fuel filter. Need help. It'll start if I do what I said and then it'll run fine. Need some advice

Checked the bolts on the shutdown solenoid? If you ever removed the AFC the bolts may have worked themselves back out.

You can also get under the hood, pop the fuel filter housing, look inside of it, make sure the orings are OK and that the filter is OK then put it back on, prime it up real good and try it again. If its losing prime you may have a larger problem on your hands.

I just don't get why if I hold the key a couple seconds after it starts up it'll keep running but if I don't it'll die. Once I do that it runs like brand new. Is my key switch shorting out or not working totally?

Nope not that I can hear. I mean I don't listen real close but I had my hood open yesterday when it was idling and I was just checking things and let it warm up and it sounded good. I'm around cummins engines all day with the farm and it sounded normal. This just puzzles me.

The one either going from the fuel filter to the injection pump or the return valve which is closest to the intake manifold towards the front of the truck on the pump.Shutoff it bolted on to the AFC housing.
