Lockout?
97 cummins 4x4 auto
Driving yesterday (its cold out) and right after dropping into overdrive, the transmission shifted out and rpms shot up. It dropped back into overdrive again and no problem... but it repeated this a couple more times. Is this called Lock out? Then I saw I am losing Transmission fluid but it is coming from pretty close to to front of the engine, not near the transmission. Any thoughts on this? Roy |
Heat exchanger or line leaking :c:

Would that possibly cause in a loss of pressure resulting in the transmission dropping out of overdrive?

I don't know a lot about autos but in my expierence any time you lose (trans) fluid you lose od

found the leak
Crawling under the truck I see that the cooler lines dropped out of the plastic bracket which hold them in place above a cross member, and one of the lines rubbed enough to create a hole.
So my question is whether that small section of metal line can be spliced with some compression fittings with success. It seems like it might just be easier to replace the line but the apparent need of a specialized tool (I do not have) to disconnect makes it difficult. thanks for the responses |
Splice away my friend .. most of us have done these mods road side in the past ... just make sure you use a hydraulic high temp line for this ... rubber will get soft and pop .. :tu:
