Fuel Plate/Star Wheel
So I just bought a 98 12v Cummins, and I wanna add more power, as well as some smoke. And I've quickly learned how to do it and what to adjust. Question is, should I wait until I purchase Gauges, or will not have an affect. I'm purchasing gauges regardless, but if I don't have to wait, I wanna adjust them. Comments?

If you want smoke crank the star wheel all the way toward the motor and turn the smoke screw all the way in!Its not going to raise your egt's cause its pre-boost,but mpgs drop a lil but barely noticeable! When you get gauges remove the plate and get some 370 marine injectors and you'll have all the smoke you've ever wanted!:tu::rocking::c:
|
yeah ...... 370's and a 100plate .... stock timing ..... smoke like a train ..... and could really mess up ur valves and melt a few things along the way ....:td:
|
your right it will smoke like crazy if you do that ... and that honda civic next to you will blow your doors off when you try to race it :argh:

Get your gauges first, my man. Once you have them installed, focus on making power. The smoke will come (I promise) and your truck won't get monkey-stomped by the first V6 Mustang that rolls up next to you at a stop light. :td: |
I haven't an egt problem and I haul a 15k 5th wheel up some massive hills!
For some reason it's hard to get it over 1200* when hauling the trailer?:humm: |
what Hp is your engine ?
and where is your timing and or have you adjusted it ? what turbo is on the engine ? anymods ... we need to know so we can give you best world class advise here ... :c: |
Gauges first, then take care of the killer dowel pin.

Not true. Especially in high-load situations at low RPM. If he's asking how to make smoke, he'll probably figure out how to dump soot by lugging it and end up melting a piston, cracking a head or grenading his turbo.

Gotta open her up for air, then add minor fuel!
To much HP and TQ and you'll slip your TC:scare2: Get a 4in or 5in straight pipe then after market air horn, then do a mild fuel plate and slide it all the way forward and afc housing!:tu: Have you already messed with the afc? |

I have not messed with the afc housing or the fuel plate. I'm about to purchase a Triple Pillar Gauge pod with 60 psi boost gauge, 1500 degree Pyro EGT gauge, and a Trans temp gauge. Then I'm going to purchase a TST Power Kit. |

Nice,I've had a couple friends run TST in there 12v they loved the power increase!:tu:
|
:c:Do kit #6,Its not to much but just enough!:tu:
You can do #5 it will just wear you tranny down quicker!:td: I have close to 315 RWHP and truck runs like a champ just a matter of time before my tranny goes,All just matters how heavy your right foot is! |
Okay, I'll upgrade kits when I feel like buying a stronger built transmission. $2,700 for a transmission is quite to pricey for me right now. :nope:
|
You can do the #5 and tranny will hold hold for a long time,Until you get you built tranny!:tu:
|
Also, what upgrades do I need, to be able to push upwards of 400-500 hp in my truck? Suggestions?

You better get a shift kit in that trans and give it a chance to survive first.
Also for what you want, don't waste money on the exhaust and intake. stock parts move enough air for 400 hp. |

the part in bold ... you have to get fairly lucky to find a free pump with 4k springs. And 5x.018's are way too big for what the op wants.
If 5x.018's are too big, what do you recommend that I get ? ---AutoMerged DoublePost---

I was looking at ATS Stage 3 Transmissions, but damn are the expensive. Or should I just look into doing a 46RH automatic rebuild? ---AutoMerged DoublePost--- Or is a Stage 2 Trans Enough ? Blahh, I Don't Know ! :s: |
for 400 to 500 5x.012's with some body work will hit that number pretty easy
|
just put a singke disc billet converter a.d a hd valve bidy in it and drive ...... dint spend what you don't have to...:tu:
|
For a DD and if your gonna spend money for a new TC a tripple disk is the only way to go
|
I don't want to spend what I don't have too. If a triple Disk Torque Converter is all I need, then that's all I'm gonna spend for the transmission.. Or do I still need other components?
|
Tripple disk converter, valve body, and a input shaft is all you will need
