Cold start issue

Hey guys. I am having an issue with my truck. If I let it sit overnight or while I'm at work it is acting crazy. To get it to start it either has to roll over a few seconds once the light goes out, or you can just tap the throttle and it fires right up. After it's started it idles perfectly, but once you put it in gear it wants to back and miss bad for a minute. Does this sound like a bad lift pump that is losing prime while sitting for an extended period? I'm just trying to see if this is a good time to go to an aftermarket one.

Thanks

Dustin

it sounds like the governor springs arnt adjusted right and your idle is to low.

^

Also: you should be tapping the throttle to get it to fire right up.

my truck says on the drivers side visor that to start the thing in cold temperature, you should hold the throttle 1/4 way open and crank it. . .
I gotta hold mine like 1/10 open and it fires right up, even at -30.
so that's not really an issue.

How long do you let it run? I usually let mine go for 5 minutes on a semi-cold day, and 15 on a really cold day. If I went after 30 seconds like the visor says, the truck would die.

what's your idle at?

It idles around 500 rpm once it's started. I always tap the throttle to start it up. I let it run about 10-15 minutes before I leave work. It still misses and bucks for the first mile or so. Once that's over it runs like a top.

there is your problem. your start fuel is to low so you have to give it throttle to start and it barely runs cold because it is barley idling. bump the idle to about 750-800 in gear and your problems should be solved.

Excellent. I will be so happy if that fixes the issue! I will have extra money for turbo and new sticks!

I just ran out and started it. It idles at 625rpm in Park and around 550 in drive

in cold weather 12v p pumps do better with idle being a little on the high end. timing has a lot to do with starting and mis firing.:hellox:
