97 12 valve transmission question
 
Hey guys I have a 97 dodge 2500 12 valve, auto tranny, 4x4, stock tranny, pumped turned up, 370hp injectors, 288,000 miles on the ol girl and still running great, well I'm having tranny problems do I have the 47RH tranny or the 47RE tranny? What would be the best rebuild for me I don't want to hook up to a self and pull but I want to be able to hook up to a gooseneck and not think if ill be able to pull it, I have a 47RE tranny will it bolt up to my motor and my tcase? Anything will help me thanks

if your truck is a 97 then its a 47re transmission the 47rh was in the years 94 and 95 only

Long story short ..... it depends on how much your gonna pull #1 ...

Need to dyno and get some #'s .... this way you will know what to build for , like if you have 300 hp and you want 400 build for 500 ... safer that way, or just build like 500 hp trans and you should be safe because most of us dont need 500 .

I will be building for around the 450-500 so my trans is going to need a tripple disc conv. billit shafts ( in-out ), and extra holding force = more clutches....

if your just pulling like say 5K , a good single disc billet TC would be great and increased line pressure to help clamp it all together should be fine.....:tu:

I just replaced the tps, solenoids in tranny and wiring I have my lock up now but my over drive (5th gear) someone told me there's a tv cable I should adjust? Tranny shift great with the new parts just don't have my last gear which I need cause I can't go over 60 without topping out, everything looked okay in the tranny while I was in there? Is there something else?

In my opinion, all diesels should have a triple disc, low stall converter with a full billet front cover. That, with a good valve body will work wonders for any Cummins diesel application. I do a lot of torque converter/valve body jobs in my shop. If a guy has a healthy transmission (this can be a big "if"...!)he can pick up some performance this way.

Adding discs to a few of the clutches and a GOOD billet input shaft is always a good plan with the 47RE transmission. Just make sure that you only add full thickness frictions and steels to the clutch packs, though. Thinner discs don't last...

I typically set up my 47RE builds with 5 discs in the direct, 5 in the forward and 6 on the OD brake. The stock 10 disc OD direct is plenty adequate.
