It's that time, KDP.

KDP, got me a couple months back and while I'm doing other upgrades I'll have the head off. I'm thinking since I'm that far, I might as well pull the cam and replace my gear housing. I found a KDP kit with housing for under $200 so what can it hurt?

While I'm more than confident in my mechanical abilities to complete this task, I have a few concerns. One in particular, the cam.

I have built and rebuilt numerous chevy and Ford V8's from the block up. My question is, is the removal and reinstall of the Cummins cam in essence the same procedure?

Next question is, if I meticulously mark every aspect of all the gears in the housing in relation to all the other gears and their respective shaft, is everything going to go back together correctly or is there a certain procedure for all of this? Not much different from a gear drive timing kit for a 350 I would guess.

Any and all info is appreciated and if you have the links, please share!

You can use clothes pins. They work really well.

the gearing is real simple ... if you get a 6BT book is real simple .. hard to explain on net ... here are triangles .. ther is an order to them .. get it wrong ans you en up with a bad deal ... like bent valves and pushrods ... etc.... :td:....

there sould be plenty of info at .. www.cummnsinsite.com .... regester andyou can look your engine up by the serial number on the old gear cover .... and ... do your selfa favor ... make sure you put the serialplate on the new to u gear cover ... different engines some of them have different spec'd parts inside ... u probaly knw that , but just in case i thought i would make that a point for you to remember..:tu:..

If you dont you might get lower HP injectors down the road if "they" went by the serial #'s ... and or etc....
