New rims

looking at buying some rims for my cummins since I just have the stock 16 inch ones on now. didn't know if a 285/75/16 would look good or if I should go with a 17 inch rim? truck has a leveling kit on it don't think its lifted but if it is its not much.

285's are a bit tto wide for the front with out levling kit from what I understand .... I'm currently running the 265''s and they only have about 1/4" lock to lock ..

Hi,
I've got a set of 285's on 16's on my 97 with stock height , no leveling kit. When I was running the 285 BFG AT's they would rub the inner fender when at lock, now with a set of tamer looking 285 Toyo AT's they only rub when you cut hard and are compressing the front suspension... (AKA turning in the driveway hard and on the brake down in a dip... ) My rims are slightly offset so it may help allow the extra tire diameter.... bigger rubber looks nice. but if your chasing mpg's or running on ice covered roads smaller sneakers are better.:hellox:

I've got a snap shot in my album with the 285 Toyos on 16x8 rims

If you want the height of a 285 you can get a narrower tire by going to a 255/85/16 They are 33.3" tall and 9" wide. They're more for a dually though.

My 285's have never rubbed anywhere under any circumstances, either brand I've used. Stock springs, no leveling kit.
I wonder if the 98 wheel well is different than the '97 and down ones?

could be .... measure from inside tire to a point on frame and realy the measurement and I will do the same and we can compare#s..... also wheels do make a difference .... might try measuring from brake rotor to a point on frame just for the technicaly correct measurement .....

I know once the wheels are changed all bets are off, with various options for backspacing and width, offset etc.
I'm running the factory 16" chrome-clad steelies, and it's 8 3/4" from the flange on the bottom of the lower control arm to the widest point on the sidewall.

i have 285's on my 94 with stock front suspension, but they are on american racing bullet hole 16x8s. They never rub. when i bought it someone had put 17's on it with 265/70/17's on them. They fit fine, i just thought they were ugly.
