12 valves are awesome

unfortunately the 47 RH isn't what do i do to it? I'm going to have to rebuild it because I think I toasted it what's your opinions on a truck that will have mostly pump mods:scare2:

turbo2332 11-07-2013 07:14 PM

as far as the trans?

Gotta<3a12valve 11-07-2013 07:22 PM

Yes lol

turbo2332 11-07-2013 07:33 PM

what kinda HP does it need to hold?

48re pump, deep sump pan, billet servo's & rods, 6 pinion steel planetaries , Kolene steels and Red clutches, HD valve body, at least a tripple disc converter.... millions of idea's but its really up to u ulitmatly how you want it build or how you would like to build it if your doing it yor self ...

Cant do the O/D with out a good pres as there is a 800 # spring in the O/d and it WILL knock your block off f you are able to pull the ring out .. :td:..

I would like to think it will have above 400 horsepower but who knows at this horse power whats up solutely necessary besides torque converter . and clutches

turbo2332 11-08-2013 12:02 PM

a single disc converter
a valve body or shift kit
a 4.1 apply lever
a good band strap and anchor
and if its toast now a factory rebuild. stock clutches and such. no need to spend thousands of dollars on these trannys if you arnt making loads of hp. just upgraded hydrolics and a good converter.

Its not the horsepower that will destroy a transmission , its brute torque ..... In reality .. HP is a mathematical equation ... Torque is the amount of effort being produced .. that's why I try to shy away from the hp #'s all together ... hp is cheep but torque takes skill ..:rocking:

Also, it's less about the power you have than what you do with it.
If you're going to be drag racing away from every light, you better build it good.
If you're going to be towing a lot, it doesn't matter how you drive it... you better build it good.
Essentially: if you don't want to have to worry about it, you better build it good.

It doesn't take much power at all to smoke the stock trans- or even a built one unless it's built to the hilt- it's all how you use it. I had a hogged out performance valve body, billet low stall/high capacity single disc TC, upgraded servos and some other stuff I don't remember in tranny #5, and just pulling trailers I BBQ'd it in twenty thousand miles. I don't do smoke shows, burn outs, boosted launches, nothing traditionally considered "beating on it" by any means. $3500 transmission down the toilet in four months.
I spent more than that just on the parts that are in tranny #6, and while it's definitely a stout unit, you'll never hear me say it's bulletproof. If you just have a driver you tool around in and never whup on it, the standard upgrades (billet TC, VB work, upgraded servos) will probably hold it together under basic pump mods. But if you want to put your truck to work at all, know that too much trans is never enough to have behind a Cummins.

ok im gonna argue a bit. just for $hits.

hp is the rate at which an engine makes torgue. so if an engine produces 1000ftlbs of torgue but only makes 250hp its a slow ass boring ride. it will bve able to pull a small house down but with no wheel spin and boring A$$ driver experience. with 1/4 times in the high teens

take that same 1000ft lbs but have and engine that make is 3 times faster and you have a 700 hp monster that runs the 1/4 in 10 flat and can still do the same amount of work.

torque is easy to get out of a diesel but HP is freakin hard. its a bit backwards from the gas world. yes torque is what generally kills these transmissions but if the torque comes on slow and long the trans is not stressed nearly as hard as right now and in a hurry. torque moves you but hp puts the grin on your face. you only need so much torque i wanna make X torque FASTER!!!!!!!!!

you spent $3500 on a tranny? you be crazy. and then it broke ide killa N????R. a fresh STOCK trans with a $600 converter and a $100 shift kit and a few odds and ends under $100 buck will hold up to 4-500 hp for years and years. im not directly calling people idiots but some people cant build stuff and some people cant drive stuff and some people just cant do either worth a hoot.
