is it just my truck?

Ever since I bought my 12v I have had to give it throttle every time I fire it up. Not much just a hair. But its every single time I start the truck. No throttle it just cranks and cranks. Is this typical or is something bunged up?

4x4manonbroke 09-03-2013 10:00 PM

your idle is too low ...... when running in D ( have some one hold the breaks W a/c on if you have it ) should run about 8-850 ish ... any lower and when cold it wont start or will be a real BI%^$ when it does start .... also check your fuel filters and your return line restricter thinggy .... cant remember the name ..... AAHHHH ....... check fuel pressure at any rate ...LOL

turbo2332 09-04-2013 05:22 AM

the idle adjustment is actually the start fuel adjustment. what people are doing by messing with the idle is lowering the CC's of fuel the pump allows @ cranking rpms. if its to low the result is having to give it a little throttle to get the pump pumping an adiquite amount of fuel to fire. a 12v should pop of and run almost immediately.

JBearSVT 09-04-2013 04:22 PM

Sounds like something is wrong, but you're supposed to give it gas anyway. My owner's manual says to crack the throttle when you crank it. It'll still start if I don't, but nowhere near as quickly. Unless you've replaced your mechanical lift pump for an electric one, you aren't getting any prime if you don't give it some gas.

4x4manonbroke 09-04-2013 04:36 PM

Mine has stock everything for now ........ fires right up ....

---AutoMerged DoublePost---

I would check ur fuel pressure hot and cold .... see if there is a difference ...... idle, wot, and then drive it a bit ...... letit set till morning ..... check it right at the attempt to start ........ betting ur Iidle is most likley messed up ....

CR9712v 09-04-2013 05:22 PM

mine idles in drive, with ac on, at like 500rpms?.. is that too low.. ive always had to give it some skinny pedal never thought something was wrong?

JBearSVT 09-04-2013 05:24 PM

Not if you like it there, but yeah, that's lower than most.

CR9712v 09-04-2013 05:30 PM

truck runs perfect.. guys were starting to scare me with this 850-900 stuff..
does need a new oil pressure sending unit though. my oil pressure is more up and down then martin on his pillow. (;

yes thats too low. you will have 2 issues. the truck will stall when cold and you will have to give it throttle to start because the rack is all the way back and not delivering fuel like previously stated.

CR9712v 09-04-2013 07:02 PM

so loosen the lock nut at the bottom, then spin the top nut counter clockwise to tighten her up, then tighten the lock nut.. right?

JBearSVT 09-04-2013 07:10 PM

I forget which direction, but that's the process, yes.

CR9712v 09-05-2013 05:24 PM

gotcha..

wyowelder 09-05-2013 09:10 PM

Check the little ball valve return on the inj pump mine got loose and it would start well or run well later on

4x4manonbroke 09-05-2013 09:15 PM

yeah 500 @ idle in gear is wayyyyy to low .... no wonder its hard to start ..... no less than 800 @ idle in D or r for that matter

JBearSVT 09-06-2013 02:36 PM

Mine sits at 750 in D. Any higher and it sounds like a jet trying to take off just sitting there in neutral. It's obnoxious.

4x4manonbroke 09-06-2013 10:56 PM

yeah I know the feeling .... whats your timing at ? that will make em noisey too ... mine is @ 15.5 till I get my studs done ... then HELLO 22* and No DAMN PLATE !!!!! :choochoo: :rocking: :tu:

JBearSVT 09-07-2013 05:52 AM

It's at 16.5 now, but that's a recent change. It was just as obnoxious before I bumped it. I blame the MBRP...

CR9712v 09-07-2013 11:15 AM

lol... i guess the stress from the low idle killed my batteries. went to go to work, turd wouldnt start. haha had to take the f250. had to get two new batteries and new terminals for this winter.

4x4manonbroke 09-07-2013 11:17 AM

I'm running 5" straight .. single cab long box .... out behind the right rear ....... love the sound .... 3" @turbo, quickly to 4" down pipe , under passengers feet to 5" and the rest of the way back... Diamond Eye aluminized pipe .... $369 on ebay:yeah:

lukesdiesel 09-07-2013 12:38 PM

$369 is high for a 5" straight pipe kit

Luke

JBearSVT 09-07-2013 05:06 PM

Don't remember what my 4" MBRP was. I want to say $265 shipped, but I'm not sure. I didn't like it, sounded like crap. Much better with the MBRP muffler.

4x4manonbroke 09-08-2013 04:36 PM

NO mine was full exhaust system ... and I must say it fit like a dream .... :tu:

Diamond eye really makes nice products ...... I will totally buy from them again :tu:

JBearSVT 09-08-2013 04:47 PM

I think there seems to be a communication discrepancy regarding the definition of terms in this topic. Regardless, $369 sounds high for a straight pipe to me too, unless it was stainless, which would make it the bargain of the century. I assume an exhaust is turbo to tailpipe unless otherwise specified, and I think Luke does as well. Regardless, my MBRP fit like a dream also. Everything lined up like it was custom bent right there in the shop, every hanger was spot on and the pipes fit together like they were machined from billet. It just sounded like a really pissed off school bus, and I was tired of schoolkids thinking I was their ride coming from two blocks away on my morning commute.

4x4manonbroke 09-08-2013 05:03 PM

yeah .. 4" can be real loud ... 5" is roary and throaty 6" is ...WOW... but thats my ears :w2:

JBearSVT 09-08-2013 07:56 PM

It wasn't the loud, so much as... ok, it was the loud. But I could have tolerated the loud if it didn't sound like crap. I've never heard a straight piped truck I liked, not in any size pipe, stacks, nothing. Although I have to admit, I do miss hearing that turbo whistle itself to a stop out the tailpipe when I shut it down now, muffler sort of killed that little nugget. It's worth it to not sound like a giant farting into a paper bag over a PA system though.

:lol88:... OH sh%t I have never heard that one before ( or read it for that matter ) ... I love my 5" .... bets 5" 's I have ...LOL :choochoo:

HydroElectric 09-16-2013 10:20 AM

just want to mention, you might want to pull off the primer and lift pump and fuel pre heater, they might be gummed up with diesel goop from the decades of running, sitting, bad diesel, veg oil.. whatever.. i had to do this on the road, 300 miles outside of austin after 1400 miles of driving fine and then, fuel starvation. pulled em out, soaked them in parts cleaner overnight(sleeping in my truck) pulled all the hardlines off and reemed them out with ss wire i had. blasted them out with compressed air. put it all back together and ran fine untill i got to austin and it felt like particles hit one injector, then progressively plugged them all up. got pics of the goo being pulled outa the parts, if anybody wanna see?

so now my trucks stranded in austin, no $$ to ship it, dont even what to think about the cost of rebuilding the pump, cause i know theres shit in there as well as the injectors plugged up.

so if anyone in texas is looking to a 12v cheap ive got one :ouch:

---AutoMerged DoublePost---

-because this same start up issue was happening with mine, and nothing seemed to fix it

JBearSVT 09-16-2013 04:29 PM

Well that sucks balls.

JBearSVT 09-17-2013 05:52 AM

I'll do it for $2k. No, $1750.

4x4manonbroke 09-17-2013 09:34 PM

LOL.... wonder if we can get on that show ....... U-ship ...:jump: ..... no wait :td:... i hate camera's :nope:

HydroElectric 09-23-2013 08:02 AM

Yea, it makes more sense to have it fixed at a shop and then drive it back. Anybody know a good injection shop in austin? Pm me
