Tranny shudders when engaging lockup switch
Hey guys Luke here. I am new to this forum however have owned my 97 cummins for 3 years. I have just a handful of mods: exaust, bhaf, no fuel plate, pump tuning, 3000 gov springs, timing 16.5. A year and a half ago I had my local tranny shop rebuild my tranny and had them put in a triple disc converter and upgraded valve body. Here recently I've noticed when I lock my tc up usually around 35-40mph and about 30% throttle the truck shutters but doesn't feel like its slipping. The owner of the trans shop has since past away so I figured you guys may could give me some things to try before I deem my tranny bad. Thanks in advance guys

the shudder is the TC slipping. what brand converter did you install? i would drop the pan and look for metal and clutch material. if you are slipping fluids will wear faster be burnt smell bad ect. give it a good look see.

Ok I know what u problem is .... the stator inside the TC had become out of balance and has most likley it will get worse ... until it pops off the shaft inside ..I had to pull mine finally ... bought one from Car Quest .. HD low stall converter ... stalls at about 1700 instead of 1900 ..... said it will hold about 700 LB/Ft torque .... working great :tu: ... my cost was 450$

Thanks for the advice I will consider buying. I got ahold of moparman1973 and he told me I could be switching to lockup at to slow of a speed and I could have this issue when the tranny isn't up to operating temp when engaging lockup before overdrive so in going to try what he recommended and see if it makes a difference. If not an going to get a new tc
