Intermediate Axle Seal Bearing
Going to replace my passenger inner axle seal tomorrow and want to do the needle bearing on the intermediate axle shaft while im in there as well. I was going to pull it with a slide hammer. Whats the best method or size socket to install the new one? Or is there a good method for this replacement?

Service manual below if link doesn't work PM me, and I will email it to you.
http://www.rm-indy.com/wavefiles/2001ramsrvcmanual.zip page 3-61 REMOVAL - INTERMEDIATE AXLE (1) Remove the vacuum shift motor housing. (2) Remove the outer axle shaft. (3) Remove the inner axle shaft seal from the shift motor housing with a long drift or punch. Be careful not to damage housing. (4) Remove intermediate axle shaft and shift collar. (5) Remove the intermediate axle shaft bushing (Fig. 23). Over on the Dodge Forum Where I took this information from, there's a good write up about it. Take a gander. Front inner axle seals , anyone ? - DodgeForum.com |
Sweet. Replaced the needle bearing, bushing, and seal. Seems to be good so far. Thanks! Also for anyone else who is going to do this the torque specs for the unit bearing to knuckle is 125 ft lbs and the axle nut is 175 ft lbs and the cad housing bolts at 8 ft lbs.
