1996 regular cab conversion
has anyone converted a regular cab long box 1996 dodge into a extended cab short box? will it work? how much reconverting did you do? would like some real life expierences!

Did you ever accomplish this?

:nope:but i wish i could but mine already canme as a regular cab short box

I think the wheel base is shorter on the reg cab long bed over the ext cab short bed. I'm thinking this because my c&c truck is the same wheelbase as the ext cab short bed. Would be easier to do like what I did and get an ext cab short bed 1/2 ton and swap all the parts over everything is bolt and go deal that way and you have all the parts you need for a swap right there in your hands. I have a build thread posted here mine is 2001 1/2 ton with 94 12 v set down in it. 1/2 ton motor mounts and trans mount are the same

You're right the wheelbase is different... exactly four inches longer for the extra cab short bed, but frame length is only about 1/8" different. I am going to use my regular cab long bed frame over my 1/2 ton frame because it has no rust where my 1/2 ton frame is crusty especially at the joint where the rear section splices into the front section. I am going to relocate the rear axle back and use a body lift/ relocate body mounts on the frame.

That's cool to know the actual frames are the same just axle relocated. |
