Whats up everyone, a friend of a friend is selling his 94' 2500 12 valve 4x4 single cab long bed with 137,000, here is "word for word" what he texted me about the truck:

"the truck needs to be reprogrammed, thats all that needs to be done to it"
"its really low geared because of it"
"it needs the shift points reset, it just shifts at a high rpm, thats it"
"no mods, just straight pipe"
"1 stack hole in the bed, or tail pipe, your choice on which you want"
"tranny has never been rebuilt to his knowledge (auto)"
"doesnt leak any oil"
"comes with an extra set of 60% tread, 33" Yokohamas"
"no rust on the truck, it came from Missouri"

Ok first off....theres no computers on a 12 valve, so what is he talking about when he says the truck needs to be reprogrammed?? how would low gearing make it shift like that??

I think what hes "trying" to say is that the tranny is slipping and is gonna go soon...at least thats what I think

What should I look for when buying this truck: ask if the killer dowel pin has been replaced? where should i look for oil leaking...oil pan, anywhere else?

Is 94 a bad year for the 12 valve, I know its the 1st year for them and the interiors arent the "best" but are they different motor/tranny/suspension wise from the 95-98's??

Finally...he wants 5 grand for the truck, I said ill pay him 4, but if any of you offer input that makes me think its not that great of a deal, ill have to think about offering him 3500 then.

ANY input is greatly appreciated, I wanna join the Cummins club ASAP!! :jump:

Ah yea no programing needed could be an out of adjustment tv cable. As long as its not all rotted out I'd start at 3500 and haggle from there as long as the rest of the truck checks out good. Same interior same suspension as all the others just a lower hp truck from the factory is all the difference. But that's easily fixed

looks good but a bit ruff have no idea what he is talking bout programming on 12v but i would not go over 3500 at the max

Go drive it and romp on it a bit and see if the trans needs to be re worked, by romp on it I don't mean beat the shit out of it but load the tranny up since your skeptical, from the sounds of it I would start at 3500 and go no higher than 4000-4100

there most certainly is a "computer" on a 12 valve that could go bad and cause what he is saying is "low gearing"... its a funny little box with 3 plugs on the passengers side firewall called the pcm... they do go bad and if the right pin comes loose or corrodes you wont get overdrive or tc lockup which would make it low geared because you lost your cruising gear. when I lost the pcm in my 96 I could soak about 60 out of it on governer.

i count that as a electrical switch not a computer:pca1:
