Oil in my intake tube?
 

I took my intake horn off today and noticed some oil in my intake tube. I was wondering if my turbo is going bad or if it might be something else?

Is it an oiled filter? If so you are putting too much oil on it and that could be the cause. All depends on if it is motor oil of filter oil.

If not you have a seal leaking inside the turbo housing, this can be very bad, if enough oil gets ingested by the motor it can cause a run away. Also the turbo is not get lubricated like it needs to be.

Its an oiled filter but I haven't cleaned it for a while so I don't think that's it and its black oil so that's why I think it might be motor oil.

I would take the intake off the turbo inlet and do some investigating.

I took it off and it looks clean but on the back side of the turbo its wet.

May have to remove the compressor housing and take a look.

if you have motor oil on the compressor side you have a bad seal on your turbo, this can caused by just only the seal or you have excessive play in the compressor seal causing the leak, but in any case if its motor oil it needs to be fixed. The motor oil can eventually plug your intercooler and cause a boot to blow or destroy the compressor wheel shaft. If you replace the turbo it would be wise to have the intercooler cleaned to prevent any issues in the future.

I am thinking about having the turbo rebuilt is there any way to clean the intercooler without removing it from the truck?

What I mean by back side is that the back side and bottom of the compressor housing has got oil on it.

no because then the cleaning solution will settle into the bottom of the inter cooler and their is no plug. Their are rebuild kits but unless you are doing it your self the cost of having it done is probably as much as buying a new one.

I found a place that will rebuild it for $375 is that to much?
