Cold Weather Starts

Okay I currently have an old 6.5 chevy and was looking at a 97 5.9 cummins. I been doing a little research and keep finding that the cummins don't have glow plugs, but a grid heater instead. I was wondering if that were true and how cold will it have to be for a old 12v not to start. I go to school in Butte, MT where the temps can easily reach -40F so that be a good thing to know, but I'm sure its higher than my cold-blooded 6.5

Thanks

You shouldn't have an issue with the starting as lopmg as you plug in your block heater.
I havn't had an issue with mine.

Well I know the block heater makes a huge difference, but if parking around there is anything like it was this year (at the dorms) there wasn't any plugs available for the people that did drive diesel pickups. I plan on moving off campus for the next year so it shouldn't be too much of a problem, but I was still curious on what the coldest start temp would be without using the block heater.

Thanks
